Part One
The Rock 'n' Roll Star
You are Jack Storm, one of the top writers and photographers for "Spinning Stone Magazine." Everybody who is anybody reads your column, "Taking the World," and you spend most of your time hobnobbing with the rock 'n' roll elite. You travel around the world doing profiles of stars, hanging out backstage at concerts, talking to musicians, heads of record companies, concert promoters, record producers, and goupies, gaining access to every corner of the innermost circle of rock.
Secretly, you are a musician and songwriter, too shy to play in front of others. You want to be a rock star, you know you've got the talent, now all you need is the knowledge to get there. Journalistic standards prevent you from revealing your secret ambition to the dozens of people you come in contact with every day who could help your career if they only knew. You've got a tape of yourself in your briefcase that you never have the nerve to give out. You also know that if you do, word could get back to your editors about your unprofessional behavior, and you could be fired. Everyone thinks you're just a journalist, but while doing your job, you are secretly gaining invaluable insights and industry connections to use in your personal quest for stardom.
In a series of interactive interviews, concerts, and recording sessions, you obtain the knowledge necessary to create a hit record for yourself. Using the information correctly and creatively is the only way to achieve your goal. You must audition band members, rehearse, make a demo, get a deal, make a video, get air time, and numerous other things before becoming a star, and you will be quizzed throughout. If, during an interview, Kenny Rogers declares that "tenacity" is all it takes, you will be given an opportunity to display tenacity later. If you don't, who knows where you'll end up.
Taking the World by Storm is funny and informative; a character driven interactive documentary with a fascinating fictional plot, full of surprises, interlaced with sound advice from the real masters of the media. It's an indispensable, off-the-wall, tour of the inner workings of the music scene, and a serious guide to making your dreams of stardom come true.
In each successive volume of Taking the World by Storm, Jack Storm chooses a new avocation to pursue. There's The Jet Pilot, The Architect, The Detective, The Lawyer, The Actor, The Billionaire Entrepreneur, etc. This series specifically targets the teenage audience, just out of high school. Each Taking the World by Storm chronicles a precise method to achieve success in a wide variety of high profile professions. Every high school and every public library in America with a multi-media section will need a whole set.
